Well....

Carla just left. We had a wonderful visit! She is so laid back and easy to talk to! She has to come back because we didn't get to cover everything, so January 12th we will finish our conversation! lol She covers EVERY base, and wants details on EVERY date and time! lol Some of them were hard to remember!

Anyway, she makes me very at ease, and I enjoy talking to her. She said she doesn't have all of our paperwork, but she sees nothing so far that would keep us from being approved through her!!! YAY!!! Of course, she isn't finished, so she said she can't make any promises. She still needs to look at finances and back ground checks, but those should all be fine. We aren't rich, but we haven't filed bancruptcy or anything, so she thought we'd be fine.

David contacted me today as well, and he and Pepper should be called Friday! That should get the ball rolling with them as well!!! I am SO EXCITED! But...still trying to be patient! I'm having an easier time with the excited part! lol

Thank you so much for your prayers and comments! I LOVE hearing from you guys and knowing that you are checking up on us! We really appreciate you all!

In the meantime, I have 2 other prayer requests for you praying warriors! Dr. Juanita Thompson is our assistant principal at school, and her mother passed away today. In addition, Carla Shaw, my booster club president for cheer lost her grandmother this week. Lots of death, and it makes me sad. Please remember their families as they deal with their loss.

Happy New Year!!!!

CARLA'S COMING!!!!

YAY!!! Our homestudy is scheduled for tomorrow (that's Wednesday) at 1:00!!!! I hope, and pray, I have everything ready, although I will probably frantically try to do a million things between now and then! She keeps telling me it is no big deal, but it sure feels like a big deal to me!!! The house is back in order from Christmas, so hopefully it really won't be a big deal!

Just pray for us! I talked to Embraced by Grace yesterday also, and David and Pepper should be calling us this week as well. Everything is starting to move along quickly!!!!

Hope you had a Merry Christmas!!!

Isn't this cute?!? The cheerleaders went Christmas caroling and got their pictures made with my grandmothers at the Assisted Living Home. That's my MeeMaw on the left and my Grandmother on the right! They were so happy!
We had a WONDERFUL Christmas! I hope you all did too! We are now busy getting everything put away and trying to get our house back in order! lol I LOVE Christmas, and I love decorating for it! The only problem is taking it all down! lol lol That isn't as much fun, and it makes a HUGE mess! hahaha

I am loving being off, and I am getting a lot done! That's helpful! I call Carla on Monday to schedule our appointment for our homestudy. It should go wonderfully, but we always appreciate your prayers! We have been able to get a lot of our paperwork done, and Jay has been able to get some of the police clearance stuff done a little faster than normal because he has friends in good places! Thank goodness!

We are also still waiting for our follow up phone interview with Embraced by Grace. The board met over a week ago, but we haven't had the follow up interview yet. I'm sure it is because of Christmas. lol I just want to make sure we are clear with them for the adoption!!! I'm sure all is fine, but.......it's always in the back of my head.

Anyway, just keep praying! We are still excited, but there are lots of things that are still hard! It's hard to understand unless you've been there, but there are still things that are difficult. You guys praying for us and checking in on us are making that much easier!!!! We love y'all!!!! I'll let you know as soon as I talk to Carla and/or hear from EBG!!!

Ok.....

I LIKE CARLA!!!! I don't know what it is about her, but I REALLY like her! She was great in the initial interview, and I am ready now for the homestudy! It is going to cost us a little more than we had hoped, but it will be worth it. I know it will, and God will provide! He has provided everything!

So....now we get started on MORE paperwork! lol This time, it is for her, and we will get it completed and turned in to her as soon as possible. She told us to enjoy our holiday, and I am supposed to call her on the 29th and schedule our home visit! She wants to visit us while I am off for Christmas so I don't have to worry about it after I go back to school! That was SO NICE of her! David was great, and Jay was really comfortable with her too! (She was a Delta girl, so she spoke his language! lol) We had a wonderful visit, and I am actually looking forward to her stopping by now!!!! YAY!!!!

Thank you so much for your prayers, and keep praying!!! Don't forget to sign the guest book too! I like reading what you have to say like you like reading what I have to say! hahahaha

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

We're going to meet with Carla!!!

I spoke with Carla again on Thursday, and we are going to meet with her today to start our paperwork while I am off! We went ahead and started collecting some things that we knew we would need, but there are several things that require that we have forms to be filled out. I can start on that while I am off from work!

The board met Thursday night, and my email simply said that David and Pepper would follow up with a phone call. Emily said that a new policy at the company required a post-application interview, and since we were out of town, ours would be done by phone. I don't know when they will call, but I would guess Monday or Tuesday. We'll see! We will be out of town Monday, so I will see how all of that goes. I'll keep you posted!

Prayers tonight!!!

I just spoke with Emily, the social worker at Embraced by Grace, and their board of directors meets tonight! They will review our application then and vote for approval. We appreciate your prayers today and tonight for their meeting! She said she will let me know the first of next week if we were approved.

Also, I am waiting for a return call from Carla Proctor, the social worker here that will probably do our homestudy, to meet about paperwork! Pray for that meeting as well, and that it will not take as long to complete it as she thought it might!

I'll let you know more when I do!!!

Please sign our guestbook!

We have had several people over the last few weeks tell us that they have read our blog. We want to know who you all are and who is following us, praying for us, and celebrating with us! Please take just a minute to click the link to your right and sign our guestbook! Leave your thoughts, your prayers, or just say hey to let us know you are checking in! We can't wait to read them all!!!!

Please note: This does NOT open in a new window, so it will redirect you to our guestbook! You can use your back button or just retype our blogspot address in your address bar!

Prayers this Week!

They got our paperwork!!!! I spoke with Emily tonight and she said our application was on her desk this morning when she got in! They are reviewing it, and the board of directors will meet this week to decide if we will be approved.

In the meantime, I spoke with Carla Proctor today, and I really like her! I can't wait to meet her! Depending on the ice tonight, we will probably meet sometime this week. She said it could take up to 90 days to complete all of the paperwork, but we have some connections we might can use, so it might not take us as long. It isn't going to be quite as expensive as we thought it would, so that is good too!!! God is really looking out for us.

Now, despite all of that, it is still hard to deal with. I know it seems like things are moving in a positive direction, but it is still extremely overwhelming and emotional. There are so many places that something could go wrong, and that is scary. It is very obvious that God has His hand on all of this, so we are praying for smooth sailing! Please keep praying for us! There are good days and bad days, and all in all....I'm just ready to be done with all of it! We've been doing this for 7 years, and we're emotionally drained. It's scary to get our hopes up and know that disappointment could be around the corner. We've done that a LOT!

Thanks so much for keeping up with us! Please keep praying for us, and for our friends, Jeff and Kim! Much love and hopefully more wonderful things again soon!!!!

Paperwork MAILED!!!

Well, we mailed our paperwork in, and we are on the road! Seems like we've been "packing" forever! lol We are so excited to have this going in the right direction!

Thank you all so much for praying for us and remembering us! There is so much going on, and it is very confusing! I'm still trying to grasp it all myself! I am going to tell you a little about how the process works.

After we turn in our paperwork, we have to have a homestudy completed. Our process right now is in finding a social worker to complete that for us. There is a series of things we have to do (paperwork, home visits, etc.) to get that completed, then the company (Embraced by Grace) reviews all of that for approval. Once we are approved, we complete a portfolio, then we wait. We have no clue how long it will take, or even a good guess. It is all up to God's timing! Everything is so up in the air that we just don't know. It is a process, or journey as I prefer to call it, so it will just take time!

I will tell you my brief story though (which you know me, and it probably won't be brief but I'll try). I signed up about a year or more ago on a website for waiting children from all over the world. I entered a list of things we were looking for in an adopted child, and they send me email updates when there is a child that falls into that category. Most up to this point have had severe medical problems, and I haven't felt comfortable with any of them, and I deleted the emails. This week though, there has been one that caught my attention and I can't seem to let them go. Yes...them. These are two little girls, Asian, who are sisters. The oldest is 7 and the youngest is 6 months. They are precious, and they need to be adopted together. The oldest has had some neglect and shows some signs of being "challenged" in school (reading comprehension problems, etc.). Otherwise, both are healthy, sweet girls. I can't stop thinking about them, and I can't quit looking at their pictures. It was not at all what we first thought about, because we really don't want to travel overseas, but I can't stop thinking about them.

I am asking you to pray for Jay and I as we look into this situation further. The oldest is ready for immediate adoption and the baby will need to be placed in a few months. That means 2 expensive trips. If this is God's will for us, He will provide! If not, I pray they find a WONDERFUL home somewhere with parents who can love and nurture them. Please pray for these precious children as they look for their family!

Pray also for the family of Emily Horne. Emily was a teacher here at SHS, and she passed away this week. She was 32 years old with 2 small children - the baby just 2 weeks old. They think she had a blood clot in her lung. Anyway, funeral arrangements are today and tomorrow, and I can't stop thinking about her family as well. She and her oldest child (I think 6 or 7) were close and I know this is going to be a difficult time for all of them, but especially him.

Quick Update!

I know I haven't posted in a while, and I'm sorry! We've had a lot going on over the holiday! Jay and David got to see UT BEAT Kentucky in Fulmer's last home game!!! GO VOLS! And of course, I've done a lot of shopping, working, getting children's stuff ready for Christmas and getting cheerleaders ready for competition! Yay! The house is decorated though, and not much shopping left to do!

Now, adoption update! We are still looking for a social worker. Everything else is done. We will print everything off and sign and send it in this weekend. We are still looking at Carla Proctor, so please continue to pray for her and us. We are also looking at someone new. Jay's mom (Gloria) has a friend that is an AMAZING social worker. Gloria speaks VERY highly of her. She has given her a call, and I will hopefully hear from her tomorrow. She might know of some other social workers in our area that can complete this for us, or she might do it herself. Either way, it is a step in the right direction. Everything should be in before Christmas! This is our gift to each other as a family....the addition of a new family member! What an awesome gift!

Please keep this whole process in your prayers as we try to finalize all of the beginning stages. While you are praying, please continue to remember Jeff and Kim! They have moved up on the list, have a BEAUTIFUL nursery just waiting, and are continuing to patiently (sometimes...lol....it's HARD!!!) wait on God to send their child. Also, please pray for my friend Beth, who had an attack tonight and is in the emergency room. They are thinking maybe gallbladder, but they are supposed to keep me updated!

Thanks for the prayers, and I'll add more again soon!!!!

Ok.....

I never thought that I would ever get to the point of posting on an online blog. Sure, I visit various message boards and forums, posting tidbits here and there, but this is my maiden voyage into a blog.So what brought me to this point?

I met Amy while working at Delta State University in Cleveland, Ms. Actually I was introduced to her by a co-worker who suggested that I should ask her out. After meeting her, I decided that it was a good idea. At 21 years old, the only thing I was thinking was "man, she is hot!" I discussed the thought with another co-worker and he convinced me that I should ask her out for Friday night. Same co-worker then promptly asks her out for Thursday night, and , you guessed it, she went with him. All in all it was a blessing though. You see, I wanted to date her because of the physical attraction I saw. By Amy dating a co-worker of mine, I was able to become friends with her first. That meant that our relationship was based first and foremost on friendship. As time went on, and relationships soured, there came a point that we finally started dating each other.

I wish I could tell you that it has been a bed of roses since the first date, and I guess in a way it has been. You see, you can't have a rose, and not have a thorn. You can't see the rainbow without enduring the storm. So many times, when things get rough, people throw in the towel and call it quits. Marriage isn't always about being in love all the time. Marriage is about commitment. Love is a feeling, and feelings come and feelings go, but commitment means no matter what I'm feeling, I'm not giving up.The same thing can be said about my relationship with God. There are times that I feel like I am right there by His side, walking hand in hand and everything is great. Then there are other times that I feel like I am the worst Christian ever. I haven’t prayed like I should, I haven't acted like I should, and I find myself doubting that I am even a Christian. At those times, I must remember that when I am no longer walking side by side with God, it wasn't God who moved away from me.

Back on track....I will take a moment to enlighten you a little. My mind wanders from place to place. I think a lot about a lot. So if I get to rambling, just know that eventually I will get back on track.

Eventually I allowed Amy to marry me (lol) and we began our life together. We started off in a one bedroom apartment. I was working nights at the time and Amy was finishing school. Man, those first few years were rough. Even though I had spent virtually all of my non-working time with Amy for a couple of years before marriage, there was something about being married that just confined me. I didn’t have to be at work until 6pm but I would leave the house at 430 because I knew she would be home at 445 or so. I would get off work at 6am but not come home until 730 because I knew she would be leaving about the time. It was a huge adjustment period. Add to that the fact that I was working a part time job on my days off and even half a day the night before I went to work, and then a half day the day after I got off my rotation just to make ends meet. I would get so angry, to the point of being furious, because I was making all the money, but she was spending it all. Now, in retrospect, she was spending the money on bills and necessities, but I was too stupid and naive to see that at the time. I would call this a low point in our marriage. I would say that this would be a low point for most marriages. It is at this point that a lot of marriages fail......go back to my earlier writing of commitment and feelings. After a year of living in that one bedroom apartment we were blessed to be able to purchase a house....a home........and it was great! ROOM! Now we didn't have to be so confined and on each other’s nerves! Now, I have to stop and think retrospectively. If Amy hadn't been so diligent in paying the bills, and saving the money that I tried blow, we wouldn’t be in a position to buy a home in the first place! DUH!! Guys, if there are any newlyweds out there, learn from my mistake. God has a master plan, and He may use your wife to carry out that plan because He knows without her help, YOU (read I) wouldn't do it.

So, a year goes by. We had been talking about wanting a child, and were actually trying to have one. For all of you out there that have had no problems getting pregnant, you don't understand how difficult it can be. For all of you out there that have had a difficult time we understand each other. You see, as a man.....I fix things. If something is broke, I fix it. If there is a problem, I solve it. Someone hurts my wife, I hurt them. It's the way I'm wired. It's the way most men are wired. You can’t change it. But this, I couldn't fix. Month after month, time after I time we really thought "This is it! It happened!" But month after month we were disappointed that we were just fooled by mother natures’ timing.

After a little more than a year of living in our home, Amy called me one night about 10:00pm. This was not unusual as she called me before she would go to bed. This was a bad night to call. I was irritated at something, and directing my irritation towards her. I was tired, (still working at night and the part time job) broke, and just all in all in a bad mood. I remember the first thing she said to me was "do you have any money?" Here we go again, why is money all she ever wants? I said "no, why, what do you want to buy now" or something along those lines. She replied with, "just never mind". By now I was highly irritated. She has interrupted me to call me and ask for more money, and then decided "never mind?" I asked her again why she wanted money and she said she wanted a test kit. Knowing what we had been through time and time again, I asked her why....why would she do that to herself and what made her think that this time would be any different? Her response floored and excited me. "I have taken one test and it was positive, I want another to be sure". WOW! I immediately went to Walgreens and bought some test kits with the credit card! I couldn’t wait to get home. I wanted to go right then, but she said it would be better to take it in the morning. I didn’t waste any time getting home at 6 the next morning. To my surprise, she was awake and waiting on me. Come on clock...why are the second hands moving so slow? Sure enough, it was positive! POSITIVE! WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A BABY! Uh oh----what in the world have I done?!?!?!

Fast forward 9 years to the present. We have tried to have another child. At first, it wasn’t so much trying to have one, but more of not trying to prevent one. As time went on, we tried. We have tried a ton of different things -- man there is ton of money to be spent on helping you get pregnant.

I have prayed, and begged, and pleaded, “God, why can’t we have another child? You tell us to ask, and we have. You tell us to have faith, and we have. Why? WHY??” “God, please, if You don’t want us to have another child, I am OK with that. I have peace with that, Please God, Don’t make Amy suffer with this burden any longer. If it is not meant to be, please, please, take away her desire for another child. Give her peace about it Lord”But no pregnancy occurred. There was no peace. In fact, if anything, the desire to have another child became stronger. And now, I was starting to have a desire for another child as well.

People. People usually have good intentions. But sometimes they just don’t know the pain they cause. I have seen Amy cry when someone asks, “Why don’t you have another child? Don’t you want another one? Don’t you think it isn’t fair to David?” They mean well, but they just don’t get it. If it was that easy, we would have had one. It isn’t it. And it’s just not comments to Amy. I have had men ask me what I’m doing wrong. Even tell me what and how I should be doing it. I don’t share my details with you, and I don’t want you to share your details with me. One of the greatest comebacks I have heard is “Yes, yes we do want another child and if it was up to us, we would have one, but it is not up to us, it is up to God, so if you want us to have another child, take it up with Him”. That usually shuts them down.

A short time ago, Amy started having some health issues. We thought that because of these issues, maybe it was preventing pregnancy. Once they were all cleared up, it was decided that there was no medical reason for her not being able to get pregnant. That’s good news though, right? Not exactly…..you see, if the problem is not with her, then the problem has to be with me. (Men=problem solvers---see where I’m going with this?) I can’t give my wife the one thing she wants. I can’t solve this problem. What is wrong with me? I am a failure. Right about this time in my self-pity state, God sent Amy to remind me that I wasn’t a failure. I had given her one child, and that meant there was a good chance it could be done again. We just needed a little help. I need to be tested. NOOOOO! I don’t WANT to do THAT! I had an idea of what the testing process was, and didn’t like that idea at all! You know, the worry and fear of the process is way worse than the actual process. Good news. Nothing medically wrong with me. No reason why I can’t father another child. So Amy went on fertility meds. We were told the meds were good…high success rate, very effective, but only good for 6 months. After 6 months you have to come off of them due to a health risk. 6 more months of waiting and disapointments and frustrations that ended just like all the others.

It was at this point, that we decided adoption may be an option. You see, it is our belief that if God didn’t want us to have another child, there would be something medically wrong to prevent us from having one. There is no medical basis for us not getting pregnant. Do not read into this that if there is something medically wrong with someone that our belief is that God doesn’t want them to have children. That is between you and God. For US, that was what we needed to have happen, to push US towards adoption. With no medical issues, and the desire for another child not going away, we were becoming convinced that God wanted us to look more into adopting.

At first, I was like, yeah, sure whatever. I don’t care. I don’t mind adopting, but wasn’t really actively seeking to adopt either. It was just one of those things that if it happens it happens. Amy and I both pray that God opens doors and closes others so that we can have assurance we are doing His will, and not ours. Case in point—when she was called to the ministry at La Belle Haven, she prayed that the vote be unanimous. Now, it doesn’t take that much for me, but it does for her.

She researched several different companies and agencies but there was always something that made her uncomfortable. Maybe it was their policies. Maybe it was their personal interaction. Who knows. I just know that she wasn’t comfortable with most of them.A few weeks ago, God sent a former youth minister back into Amy’s life through a social network on the internet. Oh, and look, he also works for an adoption agency! Emails were sent, information was requested, and now, all of sudden, life is moving at an incredible pace! We literally went from frustration and hopelessness to excitement and hope in a matter of about a week and half. This new company is great. There is a peace about using them. Everything is just falling into place. That’s the way it is with Gods plan. You don’t have to do anything, you just have to believe and He takes care of the rest! Sure there are some forms that have to be filled out, but honestly, there is no worry about the process. Every detail that we encounter, every need that has to be met, there is a way to meet those needs. By God’s grace, most of those needs were being prepared to be met several months and years ago…..we just didn’t know it at the time. Who would have thought that I decision I made on insurance back in June, or finances that were designated for one area that are no longer needed, would just come together to make all of this work? Our God is an awesome God. I am glad that He has a master plan, and I pray that I don’t get in the way and mess anything up!

Whew.....

So all of this paperwork is way more time consuming and stressful than I thought. I thought I was almost finished, but we want to make sure every detail is correct, because I don't know how it affects the process if something isn't included in an answer. I know I am irritating those poor people to death! They'll probably speed us through to get rid of us! (just kidding!)

Hopefully by the end of this week, everything will be finished and ready to go, and we can mail it all in. I am still waiting to hear back from the lady about the home study. Please continue to pray for that.

In addition to praying for us, we have a few friends that could use your prayers as well. Jeff and Kim Snow also have a blog about their adoption. They have been in this process way longer than we have. Their link is at the bottom of our page! Please pray for them as well, and feel free to follow their journey too! We also have other friends that I will not name that are still struggling with an answer from God as to what exactly He wants them to do. They want all of the doors to just open if this is what He has for them, and they are praying and waiting to hear His answer. Please pray for them as well.

Ok....well, I know it isn't much, but you know what I know at this point. We are praying hard about the finances, and while we think those are worked out for the most part, there are still some unanswered questions we are waiting to hear about. We know if this is God's will, He will provide, so we will find out soon!

We love you all!

Finally!

Well, it took me 2 days, but I finally got the slide show uploaded and working. I am also almost done with the paperwork to send in to Embraced by Grace. I've talked with Emily there several times now, and I really like her. Please keep her in your prayers as you pray for us.

We are also starting to look now into someplace to complete our homestudy. We've had a couple of people now recommend a lady to us by the name of Carla, so you can pray for her as well. I have emailed her, and I am waiting for her to email back to see how that goes.

In the meantime, we are still waiting and praying. We have started telling more and more people, and everyone seems very excited for us! I know that whatever God has planned for us, we have AMAZING family and friends that will be right by our side. Thank you!!!

I'm going to try to get some sleep now! lol I've been up late working on getting pictures together and putting them in slide shows and typing applications, and working on organizing all of the information......I am obsessed! lol I'm sure it will calm down!

Thanks again for your prayers!

Amy

"I will lie down in peace and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe." Psalm 4:8

We see it.....

So....we are looking into this door that is open before us. We've thought it was open before, but before we could get there, it closed. We have a foot in it now. It is scary. There are so many unknown things in that door. What will happen? Will we be heartbroken? Will we end up happy?

The path through the door of adoption is such a scary path. We want to have an addition to our family so badly, and we have for years. It would be so easy if babies just appeared, but sometimes they don't. We've looked into adoption for several years, but we've never felt comfortable until now. We finally found some old family friends that work for an adoption agency in Florida, and we are so comfortable with them. After talking to them, we agreed to receive the paperwork. It's scary all over again. I have to do better with my faith!

The day after we talked to Pepper at Embraced by Grace, I received an email with this verse:

"I know the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me." Revelation 3:8

When I pray, I ask for open doors. Actually, I ask for one open door, and I ask for ALL of the rest of the doors, windows, cracks, and false paths to be shut and locked and blocked off where I can't even THINK about going the wrong way. Then, I ask God to shove me through that open door! lol There is the door. I see it! I don't know why I am so scared of this open door. I know it isn't supposed to be easy. But I am a Christian, and I should have enough faith to move a mountain! I LOVE GOD! I KNOW He will take care of us! I know "I can do everything through Him who gives me strength." (Phillipians 4:13) If I know this, and I have faith in God, why is this so hard? Why am I so scared?

Even with all of this fear, we are so excited! The thought of adding another child into our family is so exciting, and it outweighs all of the fears. We are so excited!

We started this blog because so many people have so many questions! We wanted a place where we could update all of the information on our adoption for everyone so all of the questions would be answered at one time! We will try our very best to keep this as up to date as possible. This journey through this open door is an emotional one for all three of us. It is hard to talk about sometimes. We don't know what will happen. There will be times that we might be able to post it here, but we might not be able to discuss it. It is so hard!!!! We are so grateful to all of our wonderful friends who pray for us and who care enough about us that they want to know all about our journey. Thank you for checking out our blog and loving us enough to want to stay up to date with what is going on! Thank you for going on our journey with us!!! We're glad it's a BIG open door!!!!!
